Né en 1917, Jean Genest a consacré sa vie à la pédagogie et aux questions sociales. Après des études philosophiques et théologiques à Montréal, il est ordonné prêtre en 1947. Il enseigne au Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, au Manitoba et à l’Université de Montréal. Au fil de sa carrière, il est amené à faire des séjours d’étude et d’enquête aux États-Unis et en Amérique du Sud et donne des conférences sur l’éducation familiale et scolaire. <br /><br />Ses premières collaborations à <em>L’Action nationale</em> remontent à 1943. Il se joint à la Ligue en 1961, et prendra en mains, d’abord avec d’autres, puis seul, la direction de la revue à partir de 1967. Il fait preuve d’une ténacité exemplaire dans ces années où, après le choc de la rupture avec les minorités francophones et l’arrivée du discours nationaliste au pouvoir, la revue affronte vents et marées. Il tient le gouvernail jusqu’en 1986. Il est demeuré membre de la Ligue jusqu’en 2003. Il est décédé en 2008.
